Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Hair loss can be of the most frustrating medical conditions. Whether it be from hereditary male or female-pattern baldness, or hair loss from hormonal changes, certain medications, or from an emotional trauma, this is something that can be treated and improved. Injecting platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from your own blood into your scalp can help with hair loss for men and women. Generally, patients should undergo multiple PRP treatment sessions to optimize their results.
What is Platelet-rich Plasma Therapy?
Platelet-rich plasma(PRP), also known as autologous conditioned plasma, is a concentrate of platelet-rich plasma protein derived from whole blood, centrifuged to remove red blood cells. PRP is a procedure in which the doctor injects patients with their own blood that has been treated to concentrate platelets in the plasma. PRP is used to support tissue regeneration, including hair growth, and works in conjunction with hair transplants and other procedures. Platelets are the major clotting tool in your blood, giving them healing properties for a variety of treatments.
prp for Hair Re-growth.
If the hair follicles or hair roots are healthy, the growth of the hair is healthy. Hair follicles survive on the nutrition they get from blood supply. PRP consists of your own blood plasma concentrated with 3-5 times the number of platelets found in normal circulating blood. These concentrated platelets contain protein and growth factors which attract stem cells, help stimulate hair follicles growth, increase circulation to hair follicles and decrease inflammation.
what is the process for prp therapy?
The first step is to draw blood, typically from the arm, and put into a centrifuge (a machine that spins rapidly to separate fluids of different densities). After about 10 minutes, your blood will have separated into three layers: plasma, platelets and red blood cells. The platelet-rich plasma is then drawn up into a syringe and then injected into areas of the scalp that need increased hair growth, or areas of the body for improved healing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is a candidate for PRP?
Ideal candidates will have hair follicles that are dormant and can benefit from reactivation. PRP is designed to simulate healthy but inactive hair follicles. Patients with no hair follicles at the target site will not benefit from this treatment. During the consultation process, Dr. Karaca will evaluate your scalp, discuss your needs and expectations, and determine your candidacy for this hair restoration procedure.
What is the recovery time from PRP therapy?
Recovery time is minimal. The treatment area may be sore for two or three days and you may experience some bruising. You should avoid washing the area for 48 hours and then can resume using hair and skin care products.
How long before I notice results from PRP therapy?
The recovery period for PRP is typically very brief. Some patients may experience a sensation similar to a mild sunburn in the days immediately following treatment. As your dormant hair follicles react to the plasma injections and begin to function properly again, you can see your normal hair pattern return and gradually have your hair restored. Generally, patients should undergo multiple PRP treatment sessions to optimize their results.
